Palm Springs / 1

So I took a little road trip. The first stop was Palm Springs. Bon Vivant recently moved into a new space with some notable architectural heritage.  The 1934 Kocher Samson building was Albert Frey's first project in Palm Springs.

There's been some remodeling over the years but the overall form is still intact. The apartment is still upstairs and there's talk of uncovering the garden in front of the shop.   Source: Frey, by Gloria Koenig

Modernway has this great setup of Nelson, Eames and Noyes--just like the old days.
The Kaufmann house is always worth a stop.

Albert Frey / Studio 111

Just in time for Palm Springs Modernism, Studio 111 pulled out a collection of Albert Frey furniture.  The set was custom built for the Palm Springs home of Frey's longtime lover and friend, Elise Wolfe.

The collection includes a globe lamp, a signature piece in many of Frey's residential projects.
There's the switch.

There are blueprints and photos that document the source.  They can be seen here above the Frey desk. Considering the time period and the intimate relationship with the owner, Frey probably sketched out some important projects at that desk.
