The Dorothy Weiss collection is part of the Bonhams 20th Century sale, which will be happening tomorrow.
Dorothy Weiss (on the left) was a mover and shaker in the art world, as evident in this picture where she's hanging out with Peter Voulkos. Source: Bonhams
Along with the amazing Voulkos pieces seen in the top photo, her collection included pieces by Jun Kaneko, Ruth Duckworth,  Rudy Autio, Viola Frey, the Natzlers, and Philip Cornelius (seen here).
Ruth Duckworth
Dorothy had some amazing stuff, but she didn't have this one.  This is one of the two Jack Rogers Hopkins chairs in the auction. The piece on the wall is by Robert Arneson.  Jack Rogers Hopkins from the back.

Eames and Nelson
A pair of Evelyn Ackerman mosaics among more Eames and Nelson.
That's Jerry Ackerman giving his seal of approval. He identified them as being later in production (meaning late 50s/early 60s) due to the construction of the frame. That guy remembers …

California's Designing Women / Exhibition Catalog

Image
CALIFORNIA'S DESIGNING WOMEN: 1896–1986 A MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA DESIGN (MOCAD) catalog for their exhibition at The Autry Museum in Los Angeles. Written and edited by Bill Stern, with contributions by Pat Kirkham and Jeff Weinstein.  Photography by Larry Underhill. Book design by Felis Stella.
Marilyn Kay Austin / Architectural Pottery
The catalog includes biographies, photos of objects, and period resources for the designers who were in the exhibition. MOCAD worked with many of the designers and/or their families to provide information that can't be found anywhere else. A lot of great research went into this. I highly recommend getting a copy.  Order yourshere

Ackerman and Iron.  Did Charlotte Perriand ever spend a summer in California making stools? Yeah, right,
I'm very excited about this floor vase.  As seen below, it was used in a number Pacifica photo shoots.

Coffee, really?

Forms / Surfaces

Image
If you've driven down the 405 in Irvine you've probably noticed this building off Jamboree Rd.
Well, it was news to me to find out that those turret looking elements are by Forms and Surfaces

This is the same company who made these doors, designed by Billy Joe McCarroll and David Gillespie.  Photo: Studio 111
Forms and Surfaces also took over Panelcarve in the 1970s. Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman designed wood panels for Panelcarve, both before and after the company's relationship with Forms and Surfaces.

Nice
There aren't too many of these Greta Grossman shelves around.  I've counted four so far.
