Three paintings by Oskar Fischinger Coincidentally, Oskar worked as motion picture cartoon effects animator at Disney right around the same time KEM Weber designed the new offices. Theoretically, he could have been using a Weber desk when he was working on Fantasia. Fischinger at work at the Disney studio in 1939. He hated it. More on that, here.

Salvador Dali was around the Disney studio too. There is an "Airline" chair in the corner.

Noguchi / Abelardo Rodriguez Market, Mexico City

Abelardo Rodriguez Market (1934), Mexico City

The market in 1934. It was a post-revolutionary progressive model which included social areas, day care and had a goal to bring art to the people.Source:  Portal Academico
Diego Rivera curated the art program. Murals were painted by his students and visiting artists.
A wood sculpture in the lobby. Unfortunately, I have no idea who the artist is.

Her mural leads upstairs. At this time Isamu Noguchi came to Mexico City, apparently in a car (a Hudson) lent to him by his friend, Buckminster Fuller. Marion and her sister helped Noguchi get a wall commission in the market by convincing Diego Rivera to let him join the project. More information on this is included in Marion's interview at the Archives of American Art
Noguchi and Marion went way back. In 1929, Isamu made a bust of Marion out of cast iron. The only one he did in iron.

Yamasaki / Noguchi

Dodge Fountain at Philip A. Hart Plaza by Isamu Noguchi One Woodward Ave (1963) by Minoru Yamasaki is in the background.

One Woodward Ave was Yamasaki's first skyscraper. Not bad.

Busted I guess I wasn't supposed to be taking photos inside the building.
A pedestrian bridge was added in the 1980s that connects to the Guardian Building (1929). The bridge is closed now. The People Mover tracks are below.
Someone has been trying to get the bridge converted into a bar/nightclub. Read about it here. I'd like to see a coffee shop.
Noguchi is dry. I suppose Detroit has bigger issues to deal with in terms of infrastructure.
High security Noguchi. I wonder who they're watching?
It must be the Canadians. They're right across the river.
