Henry Ford Museum / Eames

Eames display at the  Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan It was great to finally get to see the John Wills fiberglass shell in person. It's the sole surviving example of the first two Eames fiberglass shells ever made. This is pre-Zenith Plastics. The shell sits is on the original   trashcan  base used by boat builder Wills in his shop.  Learn more about this important prototype, here . Herman Miller production mold.  Eames screen and Nathan Lerner chair. More about the Lerner chair, here . Hey, what's that up there? The recently acquired Eames-designed World's Fair kiosk is proudly on display.  Mathematica will be installed close by. It's scheduled to be on permanent display beginning sometime in 2016.   I was able to take a peek at it behind the scenes and it's pretty great. Mathematica / Henry Ford

The Henry Ford  announced their new acquisition of the Eames-designed Mathematica. It will be on permanent display inside the Henry Ford Museum in 2016. The Eames office made three versions of the exhibition. One was installed in the IBM pavilion at 1964 New York World’s Fair (seen here ). The first version is installed in the New York Hall of Science and the second is owned by the Museum of Science in Boston. The Henry Ford now has the third version which was originally at the 1964 World's Fair. After that, it went to the Time-Life Building and then to the Pacific Science Center in Seattle before going back to IBM on Madison Ave in New York. It finally became the property of the Eames family and then the Henry Ford. I played with it when it was at the Eames office .  Source: IBM 2012 visit to the Eames office  Source:  Requa  Source:  Requa The Henry Ford has been pulling in some major Eames piec...

Eames Pavilion / Henry Ford

Good news- the Henry Ford Museum  purchased the Eames World's Fair Pavilion that was in the last    LAMA Auction . I can't think of a better place for it to end up. Here's the press release . The post I did on the pavilion is here . It will be in good company with some great Eames items already in the museum's collection.  The collection includes the  Eames fiberglass shell chair on the right f rom John Wills, the boat builder  who  produced the first prototype. Here's another photo of it . Photo: Flickr
