Esoteric Survey

C O N T I N U U M  is the third exhibition for PLANEfurniture.  Founder Michael Boyd’s paintings and a new suite of rugs designed for Christopher Farr are to be included in the presentation for context, along with more than a dozen new furniture designs and several new objects. Michael Boyd re:Visions at Hedge Gallery This solo exhibition is new work by Boyd, with his amazing collection of vintage pieces serving as a contextual backdrop.   Benjamin Baldwin, Rudolph Schindler and  Gerrit Rietveld The vintage p ieces not only show Michael's design influences, but also give insight to his background as a collector.   Eames, Charlotte Perriand and Marcel Bruer  Joseph Hoffmann and Donald Judd, no big deal.   Michael is very up front about his influences. This is evident here, with his box-like chair on the pedestal and the placement of the Donald Judd chair behind it.  I'm so jealous of this Dan Johnson chair.  The exhibition runs until February 22.  Incidentally, this space, before it was Hedge Gallery, was Michael's music studio from 1995 to 2001. PLANEfurniture co  by Michael Boyd The PLANEfurniture co. installation is currently at Edward Cella Art + Architecture . It ends June 16th so there's still a little time to catch it.  With PLANEfurniture, Boyd takes a historical approach to create an unadorned and functional line of furniture based on a synthesis of elements from great modern design.  Cues from Neutra, Schindler, Prouvé and Rietveld are evident, and I think that's the point.     PLANKseries Made from reclaimed wood from an actual Neutra building.  BLOCKseries Made from reclaimed wood from a Schindler building.
