Angelo Testa textile for IBM and Eames Computer House of Cards. Part of  Coded: Art Enters the Computer Age, 1952–1982 at LACMA .  The exhibition looks at the interaction of art/design and computer technology.  This is pretty high up on my want list. It's hard to talk about design and computers and not include Paul Rand. In the last 1960's Frederick Hammersley used an IBM mainframe at the University of New Mexico  to do a number of computer works.    Donald Judd Hans Haacke, News, 1969/2008 - continually prints the news of the day.   This Lillian Schwartz piece is on loan from The Henry Ford Museum. My buddy  Kristen Gallerneaux, The Henry Ford's curator of communications and information technology, helped bring the Schwartz estate to the Henry Ford.  Speaking of Kristen, here she in front of a Tanya Aguiniga piece recently acquired by LACMA. JACK ROGERS HOPKINS: California Design Maverick Curated by Katie Nartonis and Jeffrey Head, “Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick"  highlights the life and work of the late San Diego based maker. The book is filled with never before seen period photos, drawings and ephemera from the Hopkins family. Dave Hampton wrote a section that covers Hopkins' history and place in San Diego. OBJECTS: USA 2020  revisits the 1969 groundbreaking exhibition, Objects: USA. The book looks at the history of the original exhibition curated by  Lee Nordness. It includes updated biographies on 50 artists from the original exhibition. Contemporary artists, such as my very good friend Tanya AguiƱiga, are included in the new volume by R & Company. They will also have an exhibition at their New York Gallery. Palm Springs Modernism Show / 2020

This was the 20th Anniversary of the Palm Springs Modernism Show and Sale.  To celebrate Objects USA decided not to do the show.  I still attended as a tourist, so you would think I would have more time to document the show, go to lectures and tour homes. Well, that didn't happen. As you'll see here, I basically took photos down one row. Luckily it was the best one.   First off is  Archive . In addition to some rare Dunbar in the foreground, there was a fiber work by Tanya AnguiƱiga .  Then there was Gio Ponti and artwork by avant-garde Laguna Beach artist Andy Wing . Sputnik always brings the heat from Texas. This time it included some Larry Hunter. This David Wurster lamp was one of my favorite things at the show. They also had two Cynthia Sargent pieces. Red Modern always has a great mix. This year it included a pair of Max Gottschalk lounges. Billings Auction with the Ponti. There were five auction houses...
