Weekend / Stuff

Smalls from the weekend I really like this line by La Gardo Tackett Later in life, Tackett spent his time writing on topics related to cooking.  He was apparently working on a book project that never came to fruition. You don't see these Gordon Newell for Architectural Pottery Polar Bears in antique malls very often. Too bad they know exactly what it is and it's priced accordingly. These Milo Baughman for Pacific Iron chairs are at Farnsworth.   I wish I needed some lounge chairs.  View from the Alameda Flea.

Portland / Expo

Pre-Antique Show  parking lot swap meet at the  Portland Expo Center   This pretty much sums up the parking lot scene The Portland Expo Center, o ver 1,000 dealers in two buildings.  One of the old timers told me it used to be in three buildings. $30 gets you in during set up. These are the few scraps of modern in the whole place. There was a booth that had some cool pots. That's an Andrew Bergloff on the left.  All but the blue one are by Henry Takemoto. I picked up a small pile of things at the show, which included this wood piece.

Bay Area / Imports

From the Alameda flea market  you can see  the incoming shipping containers from China. It's amazing with all the junk at the flea market we still need to bring in more. I've heard that George Lucas got the design for the ADATs in Star Wars from those cranes.  I can see it. Some of my flea market junk Design Line table/sculpture Early Heath dish Early Evans production DCW  The exposed metal disc shock mount means it must have been produced by Evans in 1946 or so.   The seat is smaller than the later production chairs.  It was on hold for someone when I happened upon it  in a consignment shop. It was good to see, but u nfortunately this one got away because the person who had it on  hold decided to pull the trigger.

Kyoto / Picking

There is a monthly flea market at Toji Temple.  This month is it was happening during a solar  eclipse . It seemed like the right recipe for good findings.   Praying to the picking gods. Garage sale in Kyoto. This shop was in the tourist section of town. They carried tea towels and the such. Yep, that's a Shiro Kuramata vase in the window.  I tried to buy it, but no dice. That would have been a nice score. Kyoto is temple-land. It's also Geisha-land. They have digital cameras and they text.
