Lila  Swift Monell and Donald  F.  Monell enamel top table Donald, from Concord MA., attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning degrees in engineering and  construction (1940),  city planning (1941), and later a master's degree in architecture. He was as a lieutenant in the  U.S. Army Engineers.   His regiment landed on Utah Beach in the Normandy invasion of 1944, and prepared the  bombed  port of Cherbourg  for allied shipping. Donald and Lila married in 1951.  Donald  worked as city planner for the Tennessee  Valley Authority,   with his wife Lila at their company, Swift and Monell, and later opened his own  office in  Gloucester, MA., in 1952.  Donald passed away in 2002.  Lila Swift Monell was from Pasadena, CA.  She operated a sanctuary for injured birds in  Gloucester  and  even wrote a poetry book in 2004.   Image: Zig...
